Mutations in genes that control the normal processes of development and homeostasis lead to birth defects and other genetic disorders.  Understanding the genetic and molecular basis of a developmental disorder is an important first step towards the long-term goal of therapeutic intervention.  Several DBC faculty are investigating the basic processes that can be used to manipulate cell behavior and when mutated can lead to genetic disorders.
