The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is managed and administered by the Center for Immunology and is located in the Center for Immunology (Hewitt Hall, Room 3101). Funding for the core is provided in part by the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Research and Graduate Studies, the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, and the Center for Immunology. The facility is housed in the Center for Immunology (Hewitt Hall, Room 3101). The core provides all investigators at UCI access to high quality, cost effective flow cytometry services. By providing these services, as well as the scientific expertise required to use this technology, the facility serves to enhance the scope and quality of scientific research performed at the UCI.
For flow cytometry, the facility has a dual laser BD FACSCalibur benchtop analyzer that can provide up to four color routine analyses. For Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS), the facility has a DAKO Cytomation MoFlo® Flow Cytometer that is capable of simultaneous high-speed sorting of four independent populations based on any of 8 parameters.
Researchers have the option, once trained, of performing their own analysis or utilizing the expertise of the facility's staff to run their samples for them. Specialized training classes are offered for those researchers who wish to better understand the principles and techniques employed in this technology and prefer to directly acquire and/or analyze their own samples.
For more information, including rates for service and to schedule cell cytometry or sorting, please contact Ida Theodor, the Manager of the Flow Cytometry Facility in the Center for Immunology.
